Your Style, My Style, The Style
I know, it has been a while! You missed me, and I did too!
Today, I'm here to talk about style. This topic can get very deep. I have read several books on the subject, from the day to day, to psychological and social patterns that can affect the way we dress and our behavior when we wear a certain piece from our beloved closet. It is actually very interesting how the way you dress can have a big influence on your day.
A couple of weeks ago, a friend/co-worker (awesome combination) asked me to help her with her closet and she formulated the following question: "how do I get a new style?"
It got me thinking... How do you? Is style something you can change easily? Should you? The are so many labels you can get: bohemian, ladylike, classic, edgy, modern/trendy, and many more. But maybe, they don't really define you, or your style.
My answer: Be you! That is the best style you can ever have! You are allowed to change! Change is the only constant in life. As long as you do it consciously and with purpose!
These are the steps I suggest when searching for your style:
1. Go over your closet - do some inventory of what you have, if you wear it or not (Be honest! If you have not wore it in the past year, kiss it good bye!). Also check if it still fits! Write down what you are missing and what you would like to get.
3. Strategize and shop smart - don't buy a top you would only wear once! Write down all the different occasions you can wear the piece - Is it worthy? Invest in basic/classic pieces that would stay in your closet for a long time.
4. Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize - A statement necklace or a pair of high heels can make an entire new outfit from the pieces you usually wear! Just imagine: a white t-shirt, pair of jeans, and beautiful colorful pumps or a necklace or a clutch! You can add your own touch!
5. Seek help - I'm always available for advice, but if you must, there are tons of stylist out there with awesome things to say!
Let me know your thoughts, comment below :) I would love to hear from you!
Special thanks to my beautiful friend Laura for letting me play and help her with her closet! Next adventure, shopping :)
